Iran’s Navy said the Indian military vessel, INS Tarkash, received a welcome from the local Navy commanders as it arrived in Bandar Abbas on Tuesday morning.
An Iranian commander said the visiting Indian warship will stay in the port for three days.
Pointing to Iran’s presidency of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) for two years, the commander said navy officials from Iran and India are going to discuss security of regional waters during Tarkash’ stay in Bandar Abbas.
The commander of the Indian frigate expressed the hope for a joint naval drill with Iran at the conclusion of the visit.
In recent years, Iran’s Navy has enhanced interaction with regional countries and has held several joint exercises with neighbors and friendly countries.
Back in March, the Iranian Navy’s 50th flotilla of warships docked at India’s port of Mumbai as part of efforts to boost military ties between the navies of the two countries.
In April, India’s Navy Commander Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba visited Iran, voicing his country’s eagerness to broaden military cooperation with Iran.
