Setting the ball rolling for procurement of 83 Tejas Mk-1A light combat aircrafts, the Indian Air Force has issued the request for proposal (RFP) for the acquisition, official sources said today. MK-1A block fighters will be more advanced then the MK-1 block . Tejas MK-1A fighters will be equipped with an Advanced AESA Radar and an improved Electro-optic Electronic Warfare (EW) sensor suite in addition to many other improvements .
The Defence Ministry had cleared the proposal to buy 83 Tejas Mk1A fighter jets from defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. HAL is producing the jets indigenously.
Till now , IAF has ordered Total 123 Tejas fighters ( 20 IOC-2 standard + 20 FOC standard + 83 MK-1A block ) .HAL is expecting IAF orders for more advanced MK-2 block by the time HAL completes delivery of MK-1 & MK-1A block Tejas fighters .
