India’s newest President’s maiden visit will be an Army base in Ladakh

President elect Ram Nath Kovind’s maiden visit after he takes over the coveted post on July 25 is likely to be the high altitude Army positions in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh.

Kovind, who would be the 14th President of the country, is also the Supreme Commander of the armed forces.

“We have initiated the process and hope to get the nod soon,” an Army source said.

The Ladakh region also assumes significant strategic importance as it shares boundary with India’s both adversaries- China in the east and Pakistan in the west.

Former Bihar Governor Kovind won the presidential election with a comfortable margin against Opposition nominee Meira Kumar. After final round of counting, Kovind got 2,930 votes with a value of 702,044 out of a total of 10,69,358.
