Russia to Cooperate With Italy to Modernize Indian Su-30MKI Fighters

Russia will modernize India’s Su-30MKI multirole air superiority fighters in cooperation with Italy, Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev said Monday.

Currently, the Indian Air Force has a fleet of over 200 Su-30MKI fighter jets that were built in India under the license, according to Sukhoi’s parent company.
“In cooperation with the Italian side, we will start modernizing Indian Su-30MKIs,” Mikheev told reporters at the Paris Air Show.

Earlier, CEO of Russian United Engine Corporation Alexander Artyukhov said that the Indian version of Su-30MKI after modernization will get the AL-41F turbofan engines designed for 4++ generation aircraft currently being installed on the Su-35 fighters.

Earlier on Monday, the Paris Air Show kicked off at France’s Le Bourget.

  1. Indian version of Su-30MKI after modernization will get the AL-41F turbofan engines designed for 4++ generation aircraft currently being installed on the Su-35 fighters. This is a great news to me bcoz Su-35 has much more powerful engine than Su 30. What I understand from previous articles about Su-35 is that there is not much difference between Su30 and Su-35 expect for very few most significant is the engine. Instead of buying Su-35 it is wise move to modify Su- 30 with new engines.
