On February last year, President Pranab Mukherjee said that India will allow women to take up combat roles in all sections of its army, navy and air force, signaling a radical move towards gender equality.
After few months of this move, the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar specified that there are yet no plans to induct women into combat roles in Indian Army.
Despite the rule, why women are included only as officers and not as a soldier?
This short series by Nagesh Kukunoor, ‘Test Case’, focuses on this biased issue. It tells about the hardships that women face in this male-dominated profession and shows that if women are rightly motivated, they, too, can serve the combat.
